We think in generations to preserve our environment
WE STRENGTHEN A MEANINGFUL CIRCULAR ECONOMY
STRENGTHENING THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY

The reserves of natural resources on our planet are limited. Collecting and reusing these materials is therefore an important part of a comprehensive sustainability strategy. Collected recyclable materials do not cause any damage during extraction and, in many cases, can be processed with less energy (and therefore a smaller carbon footprint) than newly extracted raw materials (e.g. aluminium or steel).
We refer to the process of processing, using, collecting, preparing and reprocessing as ‘circular economy’. With the launch of its first range of frying pans made from 100% recycled aluminium, Kuhn Rikon launched a programme in 2021 under the name ‘New Life®’ to specifically strengthen this circular economy.
A NEW ONE EVERY YEAR ‘RECYCLING’ PRODUCT

At Kuhn Rikon, ‘New Life®’ stands for a product that consists of at least 80% recycled material. At least one product with the ‘New Life®’ label is to be launched every year. In this way, we aim to continuously increase the proportion of products made from recycled material.

NOT EVERY PRODUCT GETS THE ‘NEW LIFE®’ CERTIFICATE
To receive the ‘New Life®’ award, a product from the Kuhn Rikon range must meet the following two requirements:
-
At least one component is made from 100% recycled material.
-
At least 60% of the entire product consists of recycled material.
Example: aluminium
UPCYCLING: SUSTAINABLE, EFFICIENT AND ECOLOGICALLY SOUND

RECYCLING-ALUMINIUM
-
is produced using up to 95% less energy.
-
saves around 9 kg of CO2 per kilogram of aluminium.
-
is more resistant and durable than normal aluminium.
-
less harmful to the environment.
HOW IS ALUMINIUM ACTUALLY RECYCLED?
The collected aluminium (cans, window frames, wheel rims, etc.) arrives at the recycling plant pressed into bales, where it is first crushed again and placed on the conveyor belt. After impurities and coatings have been removed, the aluminium is melted down into blocks and anschliessend warm rolled out. Finally, the rounds are punched out, which will later form the body of the pan.
The longer, the better
The circular economy is not just about products and materials to be recycled. The duration of a such life cycle plays an important role. The longer a product can be kept in its usage phase, the better its performance its environmental balance sheet. Gute Quality does have its price, but if it lasts longer as a result, can a replacement purchase be delayed – A treat for your wallet and the environment alike.
